Radio Surgical Procedures in the Aesthetic Facial Surgery

Environmental influences, unhealthy lifestyles and the natural aging process often lead to a loss of elasticity and volume of the skin. This often results in patients looking older than they actually are. Especially the eyes and mouth are always in focus. The patient prefers a brighter and fresher look and a tighter contouring of the mouth area. The surgical procedure should be safe and the healing process as quick as possible and without complications. The patients wish to be socially presentable as soon as possible and the intervention should leave no negative markings. This is possible to a great extent with the use of radio surgery.

The thermal-tightening of the lower eyelids represents a new and innovative method. For this treatment starting subziliar (between the eyelashes) from lateral to medial under local anesthetic with short pulse frequency of about 0.5 seconds, a semi-circular disc electrode is placed on the skin at a distance of 1–2 mm.

Thereafter 3–4 further rows are placed directly under the first treatment arc (Fig. 1). The skin of the eyelid heals at so low that there is no burning at all, but high enough to achieve a thermal-tightening in this tissue (intraoperatively, Fig. 2).

In my practice I use the radio surgery device radioSURG® 2200 from the company Meyer-Haake GmbH Medical Innovations, Germany. Wrinkles, lachrymal sacs etc. disappear, even Malar Mounds can be successfully treated in this way.

For this purpose the disc electrode is used in the same manner on the Malar Mounds over an area of approximately 1.5 cm². There are 3–4 rows in a 1–2 mm approximately 3–4 mm. rows are placed. After treatment a scab could form for 6–10 days. A light make-up to cover the eyelids – according to skin type – for up to 4 weeks is possible (Fig. 3a and b). It is recommended to apply also Bio Nano-cellulose mask with hyaluronic gel immediately after the treatment.
