Report on the use of the tissue adhesive EPIGLU®

I have been using EPIGLU®, the tissue adhesive from Meyer-Haake GmbH Medical Innovations, in my practice for 8 years.

EPIGLU® has proven to be extremely successful in sealing wounds topically after the removal of skin tumours and to stabilize subcutaneous sutures for example of periareolar stitches or can even be used instead of sutures on excisions of less than 40 mm in length. Occasionally we use EPIGLU® to seal the wound after a blepharoplasty of the upper eyelid.

The application of EPIGLU® is fast, simple and economical. If used properly no heat is generated. Even wounds that are under slight tension can be adhered. The results are aesthetically excellent. The adhesive dries in seconds so that skin-coloured sterile strips can be applied as soon as EPIGLU® has completely polymerized.

Patients are equally impressed as they are able to shower immediately and have no tension pain. It is also a great advantage for patients that the adhesive comes off by itself after 8 — 10 days once the horn lamellae have regenerated. When using EPIGLU® no stitches have to be removed.

The best results are achieved by applying EPIGLU® in a very thin layer. EPIGLU® seals the wound and therefore provides protection against infection.

The long shelf-life and precise application possibilities are further advantages.

Wound healing is more reliable when using EPIGLU® and the sutures are protected.
